Photographing a family multiple times is one of the best parts of this job. With each session, there’s a little more familiarity, a little more ease—and that definitely rang true with the McCrary family.
This was our third session together, and it was such a joy to reconnect and document this new season for them. We met at UT Gardens—one of my go-to locations in Knoxville for a reason. It’s full of color, texture, and space for kids to explore, and when the evening light hits just right (like it did during this session), it adds that soft, golden glow that makes everything feel a little extra magical.
Eleanor, their daughter, brought all the personality. She kept us laughing with her spontaneous dance moves and the kind of expressive little moments that you just can’t plan. She’s at that age where everything is fun, a little silly, and wonderfully unfiltered. Capturing that kind of energy is one of my favorite parts of working with young families. You never know exactly what you’re going to get—but it’s always real, and it’s always worth photographing.
What I love most about working with the McCrarys is how comfortable and relaxed they are in front of the camera. That ease really shows up in the images. They trust the process, they let their daughter be herself, and they lean into the moment—and that’s when the best photos happen.
Spending an evening with this sweet family in one of my favorite places, watching the light shift and documenting their connection? It doesn’t get much better than that. Scroll through to see some of the joyful, playful moments we captured together!
